WEATHER ALERT: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Kankakee County, Parts of Northwest Indiana
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for several counties across the Chicago area, with quarter size hail and damage to vehicles possible.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Kendall, northern LaSalle, southern Will, northern Grundy and northeastern Kankakee counties until 8 p.m. According to the NWS, severe storms were located along a line extending from Mendota to near Grant Park, but were nearly stationery.
A separate severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Kankakee County, as well as northern Newton and southern Lake counties in Indiana, was issued until 7:15 p.m.. According to forecasters, a severe thunderstorm was located near Grant Park, moving east at 30 miles per hour. Both golf ball-size hail and wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour are possible.
