A South Padre Island beachgoer was reportedly attacked by a shark on the morning of the Fourth of July.
A man suffered a severe shark attack at a South Padre Island beach Thursday morning, local officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed he was badly injured. However, additional information about his condition was not immediately available. Nikki Soto , South Padre Island 's city secretary, said a shark bit the man's leg, and that the attack was reported at about 11 a.m. near the 4100 block of Gulf Boulevard, which is near Beach Access 14, at Bougainvillea Circle.

Soto said the police and fire departments and Beach Patrol are currently on the outlook for sharks, patrolling the shoreline and using drones. This is the second reported shark attack on the Texas coast in the last six weeks.
