Long Shot, Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron's overlooked 2019 comedy, has seen a resurgence on Netflix, which falls in line with some recent trends.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Seth Rogen comedy Long Shot becomes a surprise Netflix hit. The movie was released in 2019 and starred Rogen alongside Charlize Theron, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Bob Odenkirk. Directed by Jonathan Levine, Long Shot tells the story of journalist Fred Flarsky as he reunites with his childhood crush, Charlotte Field , who is now hugely influential and running for presidency.

Four years after its theatrical release, Long Shot makes it into the Netflix Global Top 10. According to Netflix, the movie came in at No. 5 for the week of October 16 through October 22, racking up 4.2 million views. Topping the list this week were Old Dads at No. 1 and The Devil on Trial at No. 2, with 13.3 million and 8 million views, respectively.

How Did Long Shot Fare In Theaters? Long Shot’s Netflix success is somewhat surprising given how it performed during its theatrical release. Making only $53.8 million worldwide, Long Shot was considered to be a box office disappointment at the time of its release. With this total, the movie made just barely over its estimated $40 million budget.

While it is somewhat odd for a box office miss like Long Shot to make it big on Netflix years after its release, this is far from unheard of when it comes to recent streaming trends. A number of unexpected titles have been surfacing on the Netflix Global Top 10, including Will Smith’s flop Gemini Man, which just listed on the chart for a fifth consecutive week.

Thus, Long Shot now joins a long list of titles that have unexpectedly hit top Netflix status. Despite struggling at the box office, it actually received decent reviews, boasting a Certified Fresh 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Hopefully, Long Shot’s Netflix success has given the quirky comedy a chance to catch the eyes of viewers who may have been sleeping on it when it was in theaters.
