PORTLAND -- Senator Susan Collins, R- Maine , says she will not vote for her party's nominee, former President Donald Trump , in November's Presidential election.
Collins says instead, she will vote for former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who finished second to Trump in the Republican primary. When asked why, Sen. Collins said, "Because she's still my favorite candidate, and I think she could do a great job."Collins, who served with President Joe Biden in the Senate for years, says she's saddened by his apparent mental decline.
"When I watched the debate, I felt a sense of sadness, because I think all of us have had an experience of a loved one or coworker or close friend and have seen cognitive decline and we know it doesn't get better," Collins said.So far, 18 Democratic members of Congress have called on Biden to step aside so another candidate can take on Trump in November.
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, says that while Biden has had many successes and has been an "exceptional President," constituents have expressed their doubts.
