Published: Dec. 20, 2024 at 6:28 PM ESTCLEVELAND, Ohio - The murder of an 11-year-old girl still remains unsolved nearly 40 years later.19 Investigates looked into what happened to Jamella Davis, a young girl found murdered in Cleveland back in November 1985.Jamella Davis was just 11 years old when someone stabbed her to death in her Garden Valley apartment on East 79th Street near Kinsman Road in Cleveland. She later told police she was asleep upstairs when it happened.
Jamella was last seen walking her little brother from her home to Anton Grdina Elementary School, not a far walk away at the time. She made it home. But many questions remain-- including was she alone at the time, or did someone follow her home? The Cold Case unit with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case back in 2012.As recently as 2021, records we obtained from Cleveland Police showed the Cleveland Homicide Review Task Force was taking a look at Jamella’s case.
The joint task force between Cleveland Police, the FBI and Cuyahoga County formed several years ago to solve cold cases in the city.We reached out to Cleveland Police for an update on this case and we have not heard back. All of these years later someone out there could know something and finally lead police to some answers.
If you have any information about Jamella’s murder, call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.
