Residents along State Highway 134 say the drains in the area are often clogged.

A Headland neighborhood floods on March 9, 2024.HEADLAND, Ala. - Whitney Mayo and her husband looked out their window and saw the yard flooded, a familiar sight for the Headland couple.

However, they say Saturday morning was the worst, with their yard fully submerged following about five inches of rain. “The city says it’s a state problem, the state says it’s a city problem,” said Mayo. “It’s a blame game.” Residents along State Highway 134 say the drains in the area are often clogged, which prevents water from escaping during and following heavy rain. Mayo said the issue has been ongoing since she built her home three years ago.

She said Headland workers surveyed the flooding Saturday morning and promised a state response, but ultimately, those living in the neighborhood worked to unclog drains.Subscribe to our
