Dive teams and rescue crews were searching for the pilot and passenger who were on a small, single-engine plane that crashed into Utah Lake .Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff's Office said the plane was cleared by air traffic control to lane at the airport before it dove into the lake.
Officials said the plane was submerged and lodged within about 10 feet of water. The plane's built in parachute system was deployed but arrived too late to be effeective. Soon after 3 p.m., Sgt. Garrett Duston confirmed two men were inside the plane when it went down - the pilot and a passenger.The men had been underwater for several hours. Duston said the situation was being treated as a recovery operation. The men's bodies were not yet recovered."We have a private company that has a barge boat that is in their right now, and they're trying to recover the plane by pulling it out of the water," he said.
