We chat with TheWrathofBecky star Seann William Scott about his haunting villain, helping develop his backstory, a DudeWheresMyCar sequel, and more:
Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for The Wrath of Becky!Seann William Scott is leaving behind his comedy roots with The Wrath of Becky. The beloved actor stars in the sequel as Darryl, the leader of a chapter of a fascist group known as the "Noble Men" planning an insurrection at a local political event hosted by a female Senator. His plans are interrupted, however, when the eponymous young woman shows up with her crosshairs set on two of his group.
Suzanne and Matt were really receptive and really collaborative, they're like, "We love this!" And then they would make tweaks and the character came together, and that was it. It was just kind of like seeing a couple of these adjustments on the page was like, "Oh, this is the guy. This would be a lot of fun to play," and that was it.
Seann William Scott: You know what, there's a couple things. I wanted to make him as dark as possible, and it was not just for the sake of making him seem scary or violent. It was like once we established his background in being a former Army Ranger, we kind of reshaped the monologue where he reveals that he killed one of his own soldiers because that guy was a liability.
I knew she was a fantastic actress before, but to actually be in a scene with her, I was like, "She was doing so many different things, she had to be terrified, and then defiant," and then I watch the movie and I thought, "She carries this movie on her shoulders. She's 17 now, but she was 16 when she did this, and she does everything." She's a badass, she conveys real heartbreak and terror, she's also hilarious, and hilarious in different ways.
