Laviska Shenault Jr has been waived after two fumbles on kick returns against the Jets.
The Seattle Seahawks had an all-time terrible special teams performance in their win against the New York Jets, and that has cost one player his job. On Monday, the Seahawks waived wide receiver/kick returner Laviska Shenault Jr. This move may be surprising to some, as Shenault has had looked promising in some of his returns, including one 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. However, despite those returns, Shenault’s waiving should not be all too surprising.
Shenault’s departure is just the latest example of the Seahawks moving on from veterans who are not doing their part. This roster move can be put into the same category as waiving Tyrel Dodson and trading away linebacker Jerome Baker. After that disastrous special teams outing, it is not surprising the Seahawks have made this move to send another statement to the locker room. Seattle now has an open spot on the 53-man roster, having not made a corresponding move.
