“I knew I had the talent to become an NFL player when I first started playing,” Murphy said before the draft. “I fell in love with the game right away, and then I realized I was good at it. I knew at that time, back when I was 5 years old, that this was what I wanted to do. It’s been my dream ever since.”The 6-1, 297-pound Murphy didn’t think he would go later than the 16th pick, but he decided not to go to Detroit for the festivities.
“I feel like I made a huge impact on college football and in the Big 12,” Murphy said before the draft. “I displayed my talent on film well enough for teams and scouts to see, and I also went to the College Football Playoff, so I just felt like it was time.”
