Although Neve Campbell was not involved in Scream 6 due to a contract dispute, one of the stars reveales the sweet message she sent beforehand.
Scream 6 star Melissa Barrera reveals that original franchise star Neve Campbell reached out to her before they shot the sequel. Campbell's character Sidney Prescott was one of the legacy characters to appear in 2022's Scream, the fifth film in the franchise, passing the torch to Barrera's Sam Carpenter and her sister Tara as the series' new main final girls.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY People recently had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with Barrera in the wake of the opening weekend of Scream 6. She revealed that, despite Campbell's behind-the-scenes dispute, the actor was still supportive of her co-star. Before they began production on Scream 6, Campbell sent Barrera "a really sweet text.

Scream 6 was a huge success, both critically and commercially. In addition to achieving a franchise-best opening weekend of $44.5 million, the sequel earned a Certified Fresh rating of 77 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The question remains as to whether Campbell would agree to appear in Scream 7 or any possible follow-ups. It remains to be seen if the burned bridge can be repaired with a new offer. However, in-universe it is possible for Sidney to return, as her character is still alive and in hiding with her husband, Scream 3's Mark Kincaid .
Scream 6 revealed that legacy characters can come and go in the franchise with the return of Hayden Panettiere as her Scream 4 standout Kirby Reed. With a potential revolving door of returning cast members lined up for the future, there is an even stronger possibility of Sidney's eventual return. However, it all depends on Campbell's willingness to return to the successful series that she helped build.
