Both sides were working until the last minute in hopes of reaching an agreement ... but despite the Giants reportedly upping their offer , they were left without a solution. "It is what it is," Barkley tweeted shortly after the news broke ... which certainly doesn't sound like he's happy with the end result.
The Giants placed the $10 million non-exclusive franchise tag on Barkley shortly after signing quarterback Daniel Jones to an extension in March ... but there's a chance he could now sit out the entire upcoming season.
