U.S. Marine Corps personnel hand-delivered boxes of donated toys to Alaska Airlines Air Cargo employees on Friday as part of its Toys for Tots program.

“We have a pretty unique mission here in Alaska, and then we deliver toys all the across the state — from down in Juneau all the way up to the far north in Barrow,” explained Capt. Michael McDonald, Inspector Instructor for Detachment Delta Company, 4th Law Enforcement Battalion. “Today, we’re working with Alaska Airlines to have all the toys shipped out across Alaska.
Alaska Airlines Captain Tom Sharkey said it’s a community effort, from those who donated the toys to the Marines and Alaska Airlines employees who help deliver them. He said it’s a great feeling to deliver toys to under-served communities in Alaska, seeing little faces light up when they open their special surprise.
“It is the magic of Christmas. It was started a long time ago and we‘re continuing that tradition. That tradition is a burning flame in each and every one of our hearts, all the Marines, all the folks here at Air Cargo. It is truly the spirit of Christmas that comes together to bring joy and happiness at this time of the season.”Toys for Tots is a national effort led by the U.S. Marine Corps, delivering toys to over 301 million deserving children since its inception.
