The mayor of Sandy, Monica Zoltanski, has proposed a 32% property tax increase for residents and businesses.
Cyndi Sharkey, Sandy City At-large Councilmember, said the money from taxpayers would be used for a variety of things including pay raises for city employees and a new fire station.
“I will admit we have a lot of needs,” Sharkey said. “It just feels a little bit like a kitchen sink, a little bit too much right now so that's why I and I know other council members really want to hear from the public to get their input on this and how this would impact them and their priorities.” Sharkey said for the average homeowner, the increase would raise property taxes $9 per month. She stressed that means half of residents will be higher than that and half will be lower. Sharkey also said for businesses that increase will be even higher.
