The dual credit program for San Marcos ISD students is Texas State's latest move to expand its influence and its enrollment.

Under a new program, students from San Marcos high schools will be able to take courses at Texas State University to earn credit toward a degree there. The university said this week it has launched a pilot program with the roughly 8,100-student San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District under which seven seniors and 16 juniors are taking English , history, political science and math courses on campus this semester.

Last month, the university joined forces with Collin College — a community college system with 11 locations in Collin County, north of Dallas — to create a pathway that allows students to begin coursework at Collin College Technical Campus in Allen and go on to earn a degree at Texas State.
