The San Dieguito Union High School District board approved an agreement with an independent audit firm to perform audits of all four of its high school foundations, the result of concerns raised by a “whistleblower” report by Canyon Crest Academy students questioning the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation’s financials, fees and disclosure of executive salaries.

The financial statements of all four foundations have been included in the district’s audits since 2018 and the CCA Foundation has performed its own annual independent audit since 2016. The main points Allman raised related to accounting for foundation expenses, transparency of financial accounts, IRS reporting requirements and the foundation’s policies regarding targeted donations with its 25% allocation to a “higher-level discretionary account.” He even recommended the auditors conduct a random survey of donors regarding their understanding of the 25% allocation.

SDUHSD President Rimga Viskanta said when initially reading the audit firm contract she shared some of Allman’s concerns about the scope and reached out to staff to ensure everything outlined in the RFP would be included. Superintendent Anne Stafferi confirmed that the original RFP was a part of the agreement.
