Lucinda G. Perez billed the program for child counseling sessions that never took place, sometimes on days she was visiting casinos out of state.

A health care fraud scheme netted Lucinda G. Perez hundreds of thousands of dollars until she was caught. Now it has netted her five years probation and six months of home confinement, and she has to pay the money back. Perez, 57, admitted trying to defraud the Texas Medicaid program as a licensed professional counselor by billing the program between April 2015 and January 2023 for child counseling services that never took place.

Besides stealing from the government, she “abused the trust of families to whom she provided services,” U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas said in a statement. “My office will continue to pursue cases of fraud, waste, and abuse of public health systems.
