Samsung ’s “Super HDR” photos can deliver far better realism and dynamic range than regular photos. Still, a significant number of frustrated social media users really don’t seem to like it.
Samsung’s Galaxy S24-series smartphones were the first to allow the upload and display of Super HDR photos on social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. While the quality improvement can be quite noticeable with the right content, Super HDR images can appear distractingly bright compared to non-HDR content—a phenomenon that some find pretty jarring, especially when viewing in dark environments.
For this reason, Instagram on iOS offers a switch to turn off the HDR display function. Now, as revealed in this official Samsung, the company is working with Instagram to add a similar option for Galaxy S24-series devices. This option will cause photos shot with the Super HDR to display as standard images without the enhanced dynamic range effect.
