The Jordan River Parkway Trail in Salt Lake City has seen significant law enforcement activity over the past year, with hundreds of arrests aimed at curbing cri
me and drug use. However, some say the trail remains far from safe.
City officials, including Salt Lake City Police Public Information Officer Yaier Javid, are clear that law enforcement is only one part of the solution. “We can’t just arrest our way out of these situations,” Javid said. The City Justice Court has done Kayak court for the past couple of years along the Jordan River to assist people along the river address outstanding legal issues.
The City Homeless Engagement and Response Team coordinates all the above service providers, as well as Veterans’ Administration outreach, local advocates, 4th St Medical Clinic outreach programs and others in addressing all reports of camps city-wide, including the Jordan River Corridor.
