For the first time, the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office has publicly disclosed the number of domestic violence cases it has filed over the past seve
n years, revealing a total of 16,000 charges. Of these, 10,124 were felonies, while the remaining 6,007 were misdemeanors.
Gill said his office has screened over 4,000 cases in the past year alone. While the numbers are high, survivors and advocates warn that this may be only a fraction of the actual cases. "Prosecuting domestic violence helps us prevent some of these worse crimes and promotes safety," she said.
