Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Pensioners Association is against former Health Minister Datuk Khairy Jamaluddin’s suggestion that future pensions be replaced with Employee Provident Fund (EPF) savings.
Its President Datuk Wilfred Lingham said many of Sabah’s 50,000 pensioners would go to their graves early if the suggestion was adopted by the Government. Daily Express Malaysia
“The association has 6,000 members and over 60pc are receiving pensions below the poverty line of RM2,589, a measly amount which qualifies them as ‘termiskin di Malaysia’ . “If adopted, it will put future pensioners in difficulty. EPF is a one-time payment which eventually runs out while pensions are monthly payments that last a lifetime and can be passed on to immediate family after the civil servant’s death.
