The Hollywood Reporter states that this casting could propel the film into a rapid production schedule. Collider has heard that Levy's film is anticipated to precede the Daisy Ridley-led Rey movie. Levy is coming off the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, the R-rated superhero buddy comedy that smashed box office records last summer.
According to THR, Levy was previously in discussions to reunite with those film's stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, for a boy band comedy at Paramount. However, casting Gosling, who is currently enjoying widespread acclaim for his performances in Barbie and The Fall Guy, would inject significant momentum into the Star Wars project, akin to igniting a Mandalorian rocket pack with a vibro-ax. Currently, the only upcoming Star Wars film with confirmed scenes shot is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which concluded filming last October and is on track for a May 2026 release.
