A tangled criminal scheme involving two associates of Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani led to charges against a Russian oligarch
Fruman and Parnas worked with Giuliani, himself a former New York City mayor and Manhattan U.S. attorney, to try to dig up damaging information about President Joe Biden in Ukraine in 2019 and 2020. Biden had then emerged as a leading challenger to White House incumbent Trump.
Prosecutors say the money was meant to improve the chances of Muraviev and his co-conspirators' getting the marijuana business licenses. Those co-conspirators included Fruman, Parnas and another man, Andrey Kukushkin, prosecutors say.
