The golfing great is having some high-tempo ups and downs.
For the putt-putt inclined , McIlroy is a very, very good 35-year-old Irish golfer. Along with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods , he is one of three pro golfers to have ever won four majors by the age of 25. Another distinction he shares with Woods is a more dubious one: His personal life—namely his marital messes—have crept onto the immaculately manicured golf green.
In a cinematic twist, that last major that McIlroy won was, of course, the 2014 PGA Championship. Who doesn’t love a little symmetry? 10 years? A triumphant comeback? You couldn’t write a better plot. Cue the orchestra and the crane shot, this man has figured out his life and his swing! Except, as it turns out, not so much. McIlroy finished 12th in the tournament.
