Rockets' rookie will team up with Paolo Banchero and Jaden Ivey at All-Star weekend...

Rockets rookie Jabari Smith Jr., celebrating a 3-pointer earlier in the year, will compete with two other first-year players in the NBA Skills Challenge at All-Star weekend.OKLAHOMA CITY — While the majority of his Rockets teammates enjoy a leisurely weekend during the NBA’s schedule pause, Jabari Smith Jr. will embark on a back-to-back in Salt Lake City, though one that requires far fewer scouting reports than a typical back-to-back.

Neither Smith’s shooting nor his passing have been exceptionally skillful this season, but the Rockets forward was happy to be selected for a second All-Star weekend event. On Wednesday, Smith said the two had not yet discussed strategy since finding out they would both be in the event, but he expected that to take place Friday night during the Rising Stars tournament, in which Banchero and Ivey are also playing.

Smith said opposing teams are still treating him as a shooter and guarding him heavily around the 3-point line, which sometimes allows him to shot fake and drive. As a result, he has been attempting more shots inside the arc recently, though still not with the frequency that he did in college.
