Considering the openly political subject matter of the band's music, it's not surprising that there would be some commentary at the show.
After all, as frontman of the band “Green Day,” he helped devise the album “American Idiot,” which was a pointed criticism of the conservative movement of the early 2000s - particularly the American invasion of Iraq.
Later on, during a performance of the anti-war anthem “Holiday,” the screens behind the band said “No War.” And while Armstrong made no direct statement on any current world conflict, he yelled out “ceasefire!” at the song’s conclusion. The singer said that the concert was an opportunity “to love one another, to dance together, to scream together, to clap our hands.”
