Rochester City Council voted Tuesday night to approve Mayor Malik Evan's $697 million budget by a 5-4 vote.

The Rochester Police Department and the city's department of environmental services make up a large portion of the budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.“I am proud today to pass a budget that puts our City’s children and seniors first,” said Rochester City Council Vice President LaShay Harris. “With this budget, we can continue the hard work of this council to ensure that as Rochester continues to improve, it does so equitably for the most underserved members of our community.

Councilmembers who voted to approve the budget were Harris, council president Miguel Melendez, Mitch Gruber, Michael Patterson and Bridget Monroe — all of whom represent the Democratic party.
