Julissa Prado started Rizos Curls to encourage women to embrace their natural curls, she now tackles her next endeavor — encouraging women to embrace their wildest dreams.
Julissa Prado grew up with a ‘fake it till you make it mentality’ that served as her north star even when her dreams felt far away. It’s funny how the universe will create a reality out of what you convince your mind to believe,” explains Prado, the founder of Rizos Curl, a curly hair centered product line.
Now, as the founder of her own beauty startup the entrepreneur is determined to tackle her own impostor syndrome by extending a hand out to others to conquer their own. This past summer she launched what is known as the The Latina Ladder #RizosReinas Tour, which invited members of her community in 4 different cities to join her as she hosted conversations around self-worth, starting your own business, or owning your passions.
The tour included stops in Miami, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, and New York City and during each stop a scholarship was raffled and offered to an attendee who was still in college. As our online audience continues to grow what I feel is a sense of responsibility,” shares Prado. “ The responsibility to be 100% authentic, transparent, give back, continue to build community and share this wealth of knowledge that I’ve had the privilege to acquire over the years.
Below Prado shares more details about the event, why she was inspired to start Rizos Curls in the first place, and what she’s learned along the journey.I struggled so much growing up with my curly hair and not finding products that worked on my hair type that ultimately that is what inspired me to start Rizos Curls. Before launching Rizos Curls, I had been mixing my own concoctions at home for years and making them for my friends or people I would meet.
It was also important as a business to set this example that although a business is just starting out, giving back to your community needs to be prioritized.
