According to rival executives and scouts, the belief is that the New York Mets would not trade Pete Alonso to the Yankees if they fall out of contention.

Any trade of significance would ignite hysteria from one and/or both fan bases, so a deal of this magnitude, a Pete Alonso blockbuster to the Bronx, always seemed unlikely."No chance," one rival talent evaluator told Sports Illustrated about the possibility of the Mets trading Alonso to the Yankees next month at the deadline.
The Mets have been on a surge in the past three weeks with the best offense in baseball during this span. They are just two games out of the final two Wild Card spots in a weak National League, and even if they fall back again, Alonso being sent to the Yankees would still be unlikely to happen.
