Calls for more addiction treatment for young people are growing at a time when overdose deaths for adolescents are increasing.
Median monthly overdose deaths among adolescents 10-19 years old increased 109% from July–December 2019 to July–December 2021, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .
Hallock-Koppelman said more primary care access and providers are needed to prevent future, adolescent overdose deaths. "Medicaid can't make providers appear out of thin air," Lindsey Browning, Director of Medicaid Programming at the National Association of Medicaid Directors, told Axios.
