Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows was"central" to former President Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to the former chief of staff for Mike Pence.
Meadows has tried to move his indictment in Fulton County, Georgia, to a federal court and filed a motion to dismiss the charges over the weekend. Marc Short, when asked if Meadows should face"consequences" for the alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election, said that Meadows was the"ringleader" of the alleged scheme. Short's comments came while speaking on CNN Primetime on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Short said that Pence made clear that he did not have the constitutional power to reject state-certified election results but that Meadows was"central" to the alleged attempt to overturn the election. “And I think what’s often missed in the coverage is the weeks leading up [to] that, in which the vice president made it clear that he did not think that there was some magical authority vested upon a vice president of the United States, had never been used in 250 years of our republic that allowed him to overturn the election results.
While the other defendants are surrendering in Georgia this week, the former Trump chief of staff has asked a court to block his arrest while he attempts to move the case to federal court. Trump is expected to turn himself in on Thursday.
