Forward from Stratford is highest-rated recruit to pick Rice
Keanu Dawes is staying home.
Dawes, a senior forward at Stratford, announced his verbal commitment to Rice, picking the Owls over Texas A&M, Utah and BYU. The 6-foot-8, 201-pounder is ranked as the No. 23 power forward and No. 115 overall player in the country for the 2023 class, according to 247Sports. He is also the No. 9 overall player in the state of Texas. He holds 18 offers and had also considered Texas and Oklahoma State.
Dawes is Rice’s first commit of 2023 and the first four-star recruit to land at the school. He’s now the No. 1 all-time recruit for the Owls , according to 247Sports, ranking ahead of Class of 2015 3-star forward Marquez Letcher-Ellis of Montverde Academy and Class of 2018 3-star guard Chris Mullins of Lake Ridge.
Dawes earned first-team all-District 17 honors in 2021 after helping Stratford finish 27-6 overall to go with a District 17-6A championship and second round postseason appearance. He was born in Utah and his uncle Derek Dawes played basketball at BYU.
