Under sunny skies, hundreds of people turned out for the Solon Summer Festival Sunday (July 28) at Solon Community Park.

But planned construction of a new playground has been delayed, so the city was able to use more space than originally anticipated for the festival, Kraus said. “And the other thing is I think it attracts Solon families,” he continued. “The way we used to do it, as a carnival, we just weren’t getting a lot of Solon families.Dr. Al G, right, waves to parade watchers from the vehicle of Aqua Doc, a lake and pond management company.A highlight of the event was the annual parade, which started at the former Arthur Road Elementary School and ended in front of the Solon Board of Education building about an hour later.
Also near the front of the parade was the Solon High School marching band, under the direction of Mark Mauldin. Other parade participants included the Solon Police, Fire and Service departments; the Solon Center for the Arts; Chagrin Valley REACT; the Solon United Soccer Club; the Solon Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; Solon Youth Lacrosse; SC Elite Softball; Solon Saturns cheerleaders; Solon Community Living; Veterans and Friends and local politicians.E. David Peleg, banquet coordinator at the Solon Recreation Department, organized the parade.
The festival also included inflatables, activities, games and rides for children; ziplining; balloon twisting by Balloons by Blake; balloon sculpting by Katie; Barnyard Petting Zoo; face painting by Rainbow Rae; free caricatures by artist Ron Hill and airbrush tattoos by Hess Airbrushing.
