After the first Republican presidential debate, which former President Donald Trump skipped, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL) jabbed the candidates who participated, and they defended the former president.
Appearing on the Right Side Broadcasting Network after the debate, Greene said the candidates on the stage were the most “pathetic group of people” she had ever seen. They spared Vivek Ramaswamy, with both members of Congress agreeing he was the most impressive person on the stage.Gov. Ron DeSantis suffered most from Greene and Gaetz’s wrath, with the Georgia congresswoman saying she didn’t see him smile at all and Gaetz concurring, saying that “there's a sadness there.
“He looked down at the conclusion of every answer, almost seeking his own approval,” Gaetz said, referring to DeSantis. “I mean, I hate to psychoanalyze the debate more than talking about the policy, but it seemed like there was something there.” They said the debate was “disappointing” and showed that without Trump, the Republican Party is “sliding backward.”
However, Gaetz and Greene commended Ramaswamy's performance. They were especially complimentary of how he defended Trump and vowed to pardon the former president if he's elected, as well as his call to stop sending aid to Ukraine.Still, Greene knocked the political newcomer on his lack of political experience and age, saying she would prefer someone with more experience running the country.
“In order to be president of the United States, I really want to see someone that's been deeply engaged for quite a long time,” she said.
