PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Twenty dogs died in a fire at a puppy mill kennel last month. Five dogs from that kennel survived -- although they sustained major injuries and burns. The president of a local small dog rescue says those dogs are expected to pull through -- thanks to fish skin.

Friday morning, WEAR News met Pudding, Pie and Farrah. They're three of the five dogs that survived a fire at a puppy mill kennel in Grand Bay, Alabama, last month. The fire was caused by a space heater. "They're all Shih Tzu's," Francine Armstrong said. "They don't look like it right now, but they're all little Shih Tzu's.""They couldn't get all the kennel doors open. So it was pretty horrific. We know 20 dogs died," Armstrong said.

Armstrong says the dogs were severely burned and are covered in bandages. But Pudding has the worst of the injuries. "She went into shock," Armstrong said. "Her biggest problem was her eyes are burned. She has third-degree burns over more than 40% of her body.""They are fighters and our goal is to get them healthy," Armstrong said."I believe it regenerates into her body and you can see it," Armstrong said. "Something with the fish has some pain relief.
