Early temperature readings from the National Weather Service show a new record has been reached at Newark Liberty International Airport on May 31, 2022.
Temperatures at the weather service’s other two reporting stations in the state — Atlantic City International Airport in Pomona and Trenton Mercer Airport in Ewing — have been slowly rising into the 90s Tuesday afternoon but haven’t reached record territory as of 3:30 p.m.
Atlantic City clocked in at 94 degrees and Trenton reported a high of 92. But those numbers still could go up in the next couple of hours. Atlantic City’s record high for May 31 is 96 degrees, set in 1991, and Trenton’s record is 99 degrees, set in 1986. Air temperatures are forecast to reach the low to mid-90s across much of New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon, May 31, 2022.
