State police say a Bedford County couple is behind bars following an animal cruelty investigation that lead to the discovery of two dead puppies in plastic bags
.
During the second visit, on July 20th, investigators say troopers discovered multiple trash bags with dead animals inside. Upon further investigation, police learned that one of the Bowers' two dogs had reportedly given birth to a litter of 15 puppies in May after becoming unexpectedly pregnant a month prior.
When asked if she considered surrendering the puppies before they died, Melissa Bower allegedly told police that she "thought she could handle it."
