Protestors march on Preston's County Hall as Cuadrilla asks for more time at Preston New Road fracking site
Protestors will gather outside County Hall when planning chiefs are expected to allow the UK's only shale gas wells to remain in place for longer.
There has been no activity on the Fylde site since August 26, 2019 when fracking was stopped after a 2.9ML earthquake was widely felt across large parts of Fylde. The practice is effectively banned in the UK at the moment, although campaigners fear that could change. Liz Truss pledged to reverse the ban during her brief tenure as Prime Minister and suspicion surrounds Rishi Sunak's attitudes to green issues.
The agenda for Wednesday's meeting includes the application which would postpone the restoration deadline at site until June 30 2025. There are now calls for Cuadrilla to immediately restore the Preston New Road site to its pre-exploration use as agricultural land without any further delay and a protest is planned for Wednesday outside Lancashire County Hall.
