To honor the work of area advocates for unity, tolerance and equal rights in the Harrisburg region, PennLive is shining a light on members of the LGBTQ+ community helping advance the movement for full equality.

Mark Pynes | pennlive.comAround the nation, the LGBTQ+ community and its allies are celebrating and commemorating Pride Month with parades, sporting events, concerts and conversations.

To honor the work of area advocates for unity, tolerance and equal rights in the Harrisburg region, PennLive is shining a light on members of the LGBTQ+ community who are helping advance the movement for full equality. While there are many who work to make the region and Pennsylvania a better, safer and more equitable place for the LGBTQ+ community, PennLive has compiled a short list of some whose tireless work has made a difference in the communities they serve: from faith leaders and union leaders to educators to service providers.

As we close out Pride Month and welcome Harrisburg’s observance of Pride in July, we recognize that despite the advances and visibility gained for the LGBTQ+ community, many challenges remain. The struggle for equality is one shared by all.
