are now urging residents to prepare and check they have the right documentation before this year’s local elections.The Electoral Commision annouced that from Thursday 4 May, voters in England will need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in some of the elections including:Recall petitions
Under this new legislation, postal votes are not affected, as ID is checked when applying to vote by post. One person said: “This may cause a problem for disabled people, in particular young disabled people living with parents.”
