PPL still encourages people to shop for an even lower rate -- something most people don't do.
PPL Electric Utilities transmission lines are silhouetted against a sunset in Bethlehem.PPL will lower rates for both homes and businesses as of June 1, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
The reduction applies to the so-called default rate or “rate to compare” — the price charged to people who don’t shop around for a lower rate. It’s the rate paid by most customers. For homes, the rate will drop to 12.126 cents per kilowatt-hour, down from 14.612. The average residential customer will see their bill drop by about $24 per month, according to PPL.
The rate for small businesses will drop to 11.689 cents per kilowatt-hour, down from 14.751, resulting in average monthly savings of about $29, PPL said., which is run by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, the state agency that regulates energy providers.
