There's a 40 percent chance that Tropical Storm Patty will form in the Caribbean Sea in the next seven days.
Chances that an area of concern in the Caribbean Sea will strengthen into Tropical Storm Patty later this week have jumped to 40 percent. There is still more than a month left in the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, and the next storm will be named Patty. It follows Hurricane Oscar, which impacted Cuba last week.National Hurricane Center meteorologists are monitoring an area of concern in the Caribbean Sea.
If the storm develops and moves further to the north, it could be pulled apart by strong wind shear in the area.'If this system gets too far north, it will have a hard time strengthening any further,' Hagen said.Typically, storms that form this late in the season either move west, over Central America as Tropical Storm Nadine did last week, or east, toward Cuba.
