Portillo's is expanding its presence in Texas with a new 'Restaurant of the Future' location set to open in New Braunfels by 2025.
Portillo's is starting the New Year with even more Texas locations. The newest one is set to open in New Braunfels this year, according to a public filing. The Chicago-based hot dog and Italian beef chain is in the middle of a Texas expansion, and the New Braunfels location will be the second in South Texas . \\\In November, Portillo's revealed it would be opening the first in Schertz, just 30 minutes northeast of San Antonio.
Just last week, the company announced three new locations in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas, two of which will be small-format models. \\\ A Portillo's representative told the San Antonio Express News that it didn't have any news to share at this time regarding the New Braunfels location. \\\The fast-food restaurant at FM 306 and Sophie Lane is expected to cost $6 million and be constructed by September 2025, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The New Braunfels location is planned to be 6,250 square feet, what Portillo's is calling a “Restaurant of the Future.” The new locations are much smaller than Portillo's typical 8,000-square-foot locations and will reduce buildout costs. \\\Portillo's, which has 86 locations across the U.S., went public in 2021 after selling nearly three-fourths of its equity to private investment firm Berkshire Partners a decade ago.
