The money will help pay for electric cargo handling equipment and vessels at the Port of Cleveland, charging infrastructure, solar generation, and a battery energy storage system, as well as vessel shore power, EPA says.

WASHINGTON, D. C. - The U.S. Environment al Protection Agency on Tuesday announced it’s giving the Port of Cleveland a $94,261,128 grant to help it install energy saving equipment.

“The Port of Cleveland is an essential economic engine for Northeast Ohio and this funding will help ensure the Port is more sustainable, supporting good jobs and a cleaner environment,” said a statement from U.S. Rep. Shontel Brown, a Warrensville Heights Democrat. “The competitive grant award reflects the strength of the Port of Cleveland’s commitment to climate action and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to giving communities the resources they need.

As part of the Clean Ports Program, the Port will implement a series of sustainability initiatives through partnerships with Logistec USA Inc. and Great Lakes Towing, the operators of the Port of Cleveland general cargo terminal and tugboat shipyard in Cleveland harbor, the statement said.
