Authorities confirm that a duck was brutally killed Monday in front of a popular restaurant along the Riverwalk . SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Park Police said when they arrived, they saw the suspect holding the duck by its neck and slamming it to the pavement, according to the arrest report. Officers immediately took the suspect into custody, but they said they were directed by the Bexar County District Attorney 's Office to either write the offender a ticket or let them go.
As Park Police officers, it is our goal to protect Parks, the Riverwalk, and our community as a whole from crime and danger. Our Riverwalk is a global tourist destination, and we must protect our citizens, tourists and wildlife from harm. It has been over 10 years since George, a beloved duck along the Riverwalk, was also killed. Nobody was ever charged for the killing.
At this point, no formal case involving the death of a Maccabi Duck has been filed with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. In conversation with the San Antonio Park Police, our office was solely asked for an opinion on which provision of law applied to the killing of the duck.
