A Maryland police department recovered 15,000 stolen construction tools in what investigators believe is one of the largest theft schemes in the region in recent years.The items were taken from victims in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania – with police singling out Lancaster County as a potential hotbed for the thefts.Detectives in Howard County said they began investigating in January when a tracking device in a stolen tool led officers to a storage unit in Elkridge.
The tools were then kept in storage units before being sold, police said.More than 80 victims have already been identified. Police think there could be hundreds, if not thousands, more.'While we work through the criminal investigation, we wanted to highlight this case because we wanted to return these items back to their rightful owners. These thefts affect their livelihoods.
