Blake Ryan Richards, 30, is charged with capital murder. Prosecutors argued his killed his sister and her boyfriend over inheritance money.
Blake Richards, who testified in his own defense Wednesday afternoon, agreed with prosecutors that a dispute over the money escalated to violence. But Blake Richards told jurors he killed his sister in panic and terror only after she shot Escalante. On the witness stand, Blake Richards described mounting tension between the siblings after his mother died in October 2021. He said the siblings viciously fought over who would be the beneficiary of her life insurance policy.
A Collin County medical examiner testified Tuesday that Brittany Richards was shot nine times, including once in the face, and Escalante was shot between nine and 11 times. In the recording, Beherns called Brittany Richards a “psycho” who was trying to take the entire inheritance pot. It is unknown how much the life insurance policy was worth.
