Este domingo la cadena CNN en español va a presentar el documental “Planeta en peligro: California en Crisis” que realizó la periodista María Celeste Arrarás.
Tuve la oportunidad de ver la primera parte y realmente son impresionantes los efectos del cambio climático en nuestro estado.Planeta en peligro la audiencia conocerá de primera mano lo que ocurre cuando la crisis climática pasa de ser un concepto lejano que ve en las noticias a uno que llega literalmente a la puerta de su casa.
Arrarás, que ha vivido en California y conoce al detalle la zona, visitó la zona agrícola del estado para conocer a los propietarios y trabajadores agrícolas latinos cuyas vidas se ven alteradas por las condiciones de sequía, que cada año son más graves. “Es impresionante ver los efectos que ha tenido la sequía”, dice Arrarás durante una entrevista. “Manejas por el valle central y ves grandes extensiones de terreno sin cultivar, es una tristeza”.En el documental se explica cómo los agricultores dejan morir intencionadamente los cultivos para que otros puedan tener agua, y así mantener sus negocios a flote.
“Vi a muchos trabajadores agrícolas enfrentando condiciones cada vez más duras y luchado por mantener sus empleos”, agregó Arrarás. La periodista se reunió con residentes de Paradise, California, que sufrieron el incendio forestal más mortífero y destructivo de la historia del estado. Ahí, habló con los latinos que están reconstruyendo sus vidas cuatro años después sobre cómo han aprendido a vivir bajo la amenaza constante de los rápidos incendios.
