If the Pittsburgh Steelers have it their way, both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson will return.
Published: Dec. 02, 2024, 4:04 p.m.in the offseason if they can according to CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones. Jones says that Pittsburgh likes the mix of talent they have at quarterback, but both players are likely to land with starting jobs next year.
"The Steelers have a desire to retain both Russ and Justin Fields, but you have to imagine they’re only going to be able to keep one,” Jones said. “Now, I polled several execs about what Russ’s next contract will be, and it could be in the high twenties or low thirties, that’s in millions.” Wilson has shined in his six starts with the Steelers so far this season. Meanwhile, the team has labeled Fields as as starter multiple times, too. In fact, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith declared that both players could be franchise quarterbacks. That is why the Fields package exists in the first place.
So, it is no surprise that the Steelers would like to keep both players, but it does seem likely that the Steelers would lose one or the other, and as things are going, that player would likely be Fields.
