On Wednesday, ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft's first round, Phoenix Suns majority owner Mat Ishbia has declared once and for all how he intends to proceed with his future Hall of Fame superstar power forward Kevin Durant.In a statement on his own personal X account, Ishbia let it be known in no uncertain terms that he intended to hold onto the 14-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA honoree, and two-time Finals MVP, despite rumors swirling that Durant might be available on the trade market.
Still going strong at age 35 and five years removed from a scary Achilles tear, Durant is no longer quite the two-way menace he was during his peak years with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors, as evinced by recent first round playoff sweeps while with the Suns and Brooklyn Nets.But the 'Slim Reaper' remains one of the game's best scorers, and still quite capable of supplying some versatility on the other end. Last season with the 49-33 Suns, he averaged 27.
